Music Videos - Genres

There are three types of genres that relate to music video's:

• Narrative
• Performance
• Experimental

Narrative- Narrative based videos consist of a story relating to the lyrics of the song. The artists/bands are not always seen in this type of video however a number of artists such as Taylor Swift fearture in their video. Below is an example of a video where it is narrative based, the song is called you belong with me by the artist Taylor Swift.

Performance- Performance related videos mainly show the band performing the song directly to the audience, this can include a number of locations such as at a concert. Below is an example of a performance video by the singer Lady Gaga, the song is called bad romance, this is a performance video because it shows her singing the song to the audience and choreography is used aswell.

Experimental- Experimental videos are where the artist or band use different mediums and techniques to show the audience the song, for example green day and their video for the song 21st century breakdown.

However videos can combine genres together.
